Fisheye effects shooting landscape scenes

Fisheye lenses produce unnatural distortions. They may be less apparent when shooting landscape scenes, depending on the selected field of view. This is shown in the below example where both the horizon and the drain run parallel to the edges and through the center of the image. Distortions are present but less noticeable.

Moving the horizon to the edge of the frame makes the distortions obvious, as shown in the following image of the same scenery:
